Leroy Washington
Living in Seattle, WA, has always been Milwaukee's Leroy Washington's dream. One of the strongest reasons keeping him in the city is the fact that his two good friends, Lanard Robinson and Mark Whaley, live here. The three met while working at MPS--Milwaukee Public School. Washington is happy sharing his life and space with these friends, who he considers his family. In his opinion, that is the most special part about living in the Lisbon Avenue neighborhood.
Before coming to Milwaukee, Washington lived in Chicago. After high school, he joined the United States military. Once his service was finished, he spent three years in Georgia, where he attended Meadows College and earned a degree in social work. Washington has been living in Lisbon Avenue for three years now, sharing his home with Robinson and Whaley. Even though he doesn't have a lot friends in the community he feels comfortable and safe. Leroy Washington is currently working at an armored car agency. He has plans to transform the basement of his home into a studio for young new artists. In this way he can contribute to making this community a better place for everyone. Leroy Washington, Interviewed by Maisa Bastos, Yiming Tang, June 2016 |
